March 19, 2013 - FreightCenter, recognized for developing innovative technology that simplifies logistics and transportation for businesses and individual shippers. For a second time in three years, the company received the top award in the best website category at the BizTech Innovation Summit and awards ceremony presented by the Tampa Bay Business Journal and the Tampa Bay Technology Forum.
From the Tampa Bay Technology Forum’s website, the 3rd annual BizTech Innovation Summit “aims to identify and acknowledge the substantive gains Tampa Bay area businesses are making in developing, employing and utilizing technology for their own companies and clients.” Out of 33 finalists, winners in six categories were named for demonstrating innovation and leadership in the areas of social media, web technology and IT.
“Each day, thousands of customers choose among hundreds of websites to find a solution for their freight shipping needs. By winning awards like this one, we are able to distinguish our website as a top choice for recommending our carriers and the best-in-class services they provide,” said Doug Walls, Chief Information Officer for FreightCenter.
Since 2011 when it received its first BizTech award, the company has seen a dramatic growth in the number of customers who repeatedly return to FreightCenter to compare pricing, transit times and equipment offered by multiple carriers. The upturn in web traffic has allowed for a company expansion that includes a newly renovated 16,000 square-foot office space and 60 new hires across its three main divisions: account management, supply chain logistics and software development.
“In a very short period of time, we’ve been able to double our staff and triple our office space. We directly correlate this new growth to significant improvements in site performance, changes to operating procedures and investments in our technology,” said Walls. “We’re very proud of the contributions we have made to our local economy and throughout the transportation and logistics industry.”
FreightCenter produces Web-based software that optimizes transportation for businesses and simplifies the way consumers obtain rate quotes and book with carriers. Through an analysis of transportation spend and freight requirements, the company helps shippers determine the transportation mode that offers the best value.
An awards luncheon was held on Thursday, March 14 at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa. The luncheon was followed by a local business expo that featured emerging technology products and services from 48 Tampa Bay area companies.
