Meet FreightCenter’s Expert of the Month – Lisa Torzillo! For close to a decade, Lisa has been an integral part of our talented team and part of FreightCenter’s backbone.

Joining FreightCenter 10 years ago, Lisa worked her way from the sales floor to a supervisor role. She played a key role in developing our Customer Service Department and now serves as FreightCenter’s Corporate Trainer.

Her story with us reflects the growth of FreightCenter, from humble beginnings to one of the fastest-growing companies in the Tampa Bay Area.

In my recent interview with her, Lisa said, “I was new to the industry, self-taught. When I joined FreightCenter, it was a much smaller organization. Our training program wasn’t what it is today…we didn’t really have a formal training program. It has really blossomed. We develop our employees with the tools they need to be successful and help our customers to be successful.”

Challenges We’ve Faced

As with every industry, things have changed in the 3PL arena also. Lisa highlighted a few of the challenges we’ve faced when working with carriers now compared to how it was back in the day. “There were no restrictions with carriers. It was easy to talk to carriers and work together to get what you needed done. Now working at capacity, they are more selective on what loads they want to take, what they don’t want to take, who does what, who moves what…that has changed dramatically.”

A strong network of carriers is crucial for any 3PL. Knowing how to communicate and forging healthy relationships with carriers helps 3PLs provide better services for their customers. A larger network means more options and an easier path to finding the right solutions for any shipper.

As restrictions and regulations change rapidly in the industry, it’s important that your 3PL partner stays on top of these changes and operates with full knowledge of what is happening in the logistics business.
