General cargo is large items that need to be transported but are loaded individually. This means that the items are packaged in boxes, crates, barrels, etc. Sometimes general cargo is referred to as break bulk cargo. Generally when referring to cargo shipping, goods are being transported by a cargo ship. First they're loaded into a cargo container and then onto the ship. Cargo shipping can also be done using airplanes. In that case it is referred to air cargo, but is handled in a similar manner. Cargo containers will usually contain different commodities from several different origins.
