Cartage is a term meaning the transportation of goods over a short distance, such as within a commercial area or town. Cartage freight companies are widely used for light hauls or local carting services that are not covered by our carriers' services. A cartage fee applies to this type of service because a smaller truck or van is used to deliver the goods.

FreightCenter does not offer cartage options. Any cartage services required by a private cartage agents will involve the use of the separate agent's paperwork while the goods are in their possession. When a cartage agents is used, we consider the shipment as delivered because it has been handed off to the cartage agent and is no longer traceable. Any cartage fees you have will not show up on your FreightCenter bill of lading (BOL).

FreightCenter might not offer cartage services, but we do offer just about any freight shipping service necessary before cartage services are required. That includes intermodal and rail shipping, international shipping, less than truckload and truckload shipping.
