What Are Cartage Services?

Cartage is a term for transporting goods over a short distance. This is often done within a commercial area or town. Cartage freight companies are used for light hauls or local carting services that are not covered by our carriers’ services. A service fee is applied to this type of service because a smaller truck or van is used to deliver the goods.

There are many companies in the United States that offer package delivery services. UPS, FedEx, and DHL are some of the most well-known companies. However, there are also many smaller companies that offer these services. Any trucking company can provide these services as long as they have the proper license. The packages are usually picked up from a local terminal where loads of parcels are delivered. The parcels are unloaded and then distributed to local drivers.

FreightCenter can provide cartage transportation services. If you need cartage services, you will need to use separate paperwork. The goods will be in the separate agent’s possession. When we use a transportation agent, we consider the shipment to be delivered. This means that the shipment is no longer our responsibility and any fees for the transportation agent will not appear on your FreightCenter bill of lading.
