Freight shipping compare quotes

Freight shipping services

FreightCenter provides a web-based tool that enables you to get an instant freight quote online. Freight quotes are determined by a number of different factors. When obtaining a freight quote, the type of commodity, weight, dimensions, pickup and delivery location and distance all influence the cost to ship. The best way to avoid a change in shipping rates is to ensure that all information given to FreightCenter at the time of booking is 100% complete and accurate. When scheduling your freight shipment, make sure you are as honest and accurate as you can be about the contents, weight, and size of your freight.

Freight Class

A term the freight industry uses to classify your freight type. Freight class refers to the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) and it is the category of your freight as defined by the NMFC. There are 18 freight classes ranging from 50 (least expensive class) to 500 (most expensive class). Your NMFC number or freight class determines your total shipping charges. For this reason, it is critical that you know the correct NMFC number and freight class in order to receive accurate freight charges and to ensure that the carrier does not re-class your shipment, which could result in a higher shipping charge.

Dimensions and Weight

The dimensions and weight of a shipment are the most important elements that determine a freight quote. It’s very important to make sure you have the correct weight and dimensions as these affect your freight class. Be sure to include the packaging in the total weight.

Lanes and Route Optimization

A lane is determined by the pickup and delivery locations. There is typically a fuel surcharge associated with each lane that changes weekly according to fuel costs.

Freight Distance

The longer the distance, the higher the cost.

Pickups or Deliveries that require a lift gate, limited access, residential delivery, refrigeration, hazmat, and other special requirements will add extra fees and charges. Limited access refers to a location that has a controlled entrance or limited suitability, such as a military base.

Shipment Timeframe

Fast delivery times may necessitate an expedited or express service which will increase prices. Transit times are not guaranteed, they are estimated days. Transit times also do not count on day of pickup or over the weekends. If you have a time critical shipment, make sure to mention it to our freight experts so they can choose the correct carriers.
