Boxing up wheels isn’t complicated at all! Pick a corrugated box that is a little bigger than the wheel itself. For example, 17″x8″ with no tire would fit in a container that is at least 18″x18″x16″. This allows the wheels to lay flat, stacked and positioned when shipping. Let’s say your friend is selling their wheels for something more aesthetic and custom, and they have to ship out their 18″ wheels to the buyer. They will package them in a box size of around 22″x18″x18″. Before packaging, it is beneficial to deflate some air from the tires, making them less dense. To avoid the tumbling effect while in the moving cargo truck, fill the gaps in the box with bubble wrap or wrapping paper. This prevents the wheels from shifting around and getting damaged.

An excellent method pulled from YouTube helps with sealing the package; If there is still space at the top when closing the box, put a smaller box on top of the wheels; then, when you close the flaps and tape it, they will be flat and secured in case anything is stacked on top. It is essential to palletize your boxes if they are stacked. This adds an extra layer of protection. If shipping tires with no rims, use the same concept of picking a slightly bigger box than the tire. In this case, you don’t need to add any protective filament. Just put a circle of cardboard and a foam sheet between each tire and bind them together with a wrap, strap, or significant zip ties. Add the tires flat in the box, then you are ready for shipping wheels and tires, and the car is ready for fresh new shoes!
